Are you serious?
Deadly serious.

Really?
Yes.

But . . . they’re goblins.
And? That makes it okay to invade their homes and kill them indiscriminately?

You realize that since time immemorial goblins have been depicted in fiction as being evil?
That is hardly the case – portrayals of goblins have ranged far and wide, from malevolent to mischievous to helpful. Description of goblins as being filthy, rat-like beings that are prone to torture and slavery are relatively recent in origin. It is our claim that these depictions are degrading, racist, and, of course, inaccurate.

But don’t the creators of Dungeons and Dragons have the right to define goblins however they see fit?
Well, isn’t that convenient! What, precisely, makes them so special that they can run around defining whomever and whatever they feel like, however they feel like? If you ask us (and you just did), that sounds pretty sketchy.

Um . . . but, goblins are fictional.
That’s not a question, and this is the FAQ. Still, you seem to be clawing your way towards a point, so we will respond. Just because they’re fictional doesn’t make it right. We suspect that if they depicted elves as androgynous pederasts, you would have a problem with it.

How dare you! That’s offensive.
Yes, it is. And so is the history of vilification of goblins in D&D. Perhaps now you’re starting to get the point.
